 Coyote Hunting

How is coyote hunting different from hunting bigger animals?
First of all, you have to understand that coyotes have very sensitive ears. When a coyote itself is hunting small animals, any sound the animal being hunted makes signals to the coyote where its next meal is! So sound is very important to coyotes. They need to hear the calls of small animals to get their next meal.

But how does this help a coyote hunter?
If they can imitate small animal calls accurately enough, the coyote will come looking for that small animal. In other words the coyote will come looking for you, the imitator of small animals. Effectively mastering a particular call is one of the most effective ways to keep a coyote in sight. This coyote will then become an easy target for the coyote hunter.

Why are coyotes hunted?
Coyotes like fast food, easy food, just like humans, only for coyotes this comes in the form of penned cattle and also sheep. What is easier to catch than an animal that is surrounded by fencing with no hiding place to go?

Now do you have to try to imitate animal calls yourself?
Thank goodness the answer to this is No! Although you can try to sound like a wounded rabbit, or any injured rabbit, there are many coyote calls available to purchase that saves you the embarrassment of sounding weird! And it means you can confidently reproduce the sound whenever you want!

First of all you can get an electronically made coyote call or series of calls, and some of these are available for free on the internet. But this means taking some means of playing the sounds with you on your camping trip - not always an option.

Then there is the open reed call and thirdly, the closed reed call. In fact there are a lot of these calls for sale online, beautifully carved pieces of wood with the reed inserted, and they produce very realistic small animal sounds, sounds like injured animals, the kind that coyotes like best! Injured animals make for a faster meal!

So the coyote hunter has a large number of options available, but it does take some practice to make the sounds that coyotes like. The recordings are available at many stores, as well as online. But purchasing the recording is not all that is involved. You need to read the instructions that come with the recording, and practice, a lot, and then you will find that making coyote calls is easy.

And once you've mastered the coyote calls, it will improve your coyote hunting no end!
